You can't do that, you have to wait for the server to finish scanning before trying to access the files. I don't have the Touch in front of me so I might get the exact names wrong. After the server starts, go to the main menu and go to USB device. In that menu should be Squeezebox server. Select that. This should give you the status panel for the internal server. You should see messages about files being scanned etc. There are three phases to the process, an initial scan of ALL files on the disk, with this it figures out which are audio files and cover art etc. Then it goes and reads all the audio files extracting the tags and building a database of file information, then it goes and resizes all the cover art to a size it can use later on when playing files. Each of these phases will give a message about how far along it is in the scan process then give a completed message. You need to wait until you have all three completed messages before attempting to access music. Since it sounds like you were not waiting until the scan was complete in previous attempts you might have a corrupted data base. Its best to delete it before attempting the scan process again. The best way is to plug the drive into another computer and delete the .Squeezebox directory. This is a hidden file in some OSes so make sure you turn on visibility of hidden files. After deleting the directory make sure you empty the trash so it really isn't there. Now you can plug it back in the Touch. Go to the server status panel and wait until the scan is finished. NOW you can try accessing the music. >From then on each time you plug in the drive or plug power in to the Touch it will do a quick scan of the disk to see if there are any new files added to the disk. The quick scan usually only takes a few minutes. Again check the server status panel to make sure the scan has completed before attempting to access music. The quick scan will tell you if it has found any new files. If it has NOT found any new files there will just be only the one phase of the scan process. IF it has found any new audio files the other two phases are run. If there are only a few new files they will run quickly. It only takes a LOOONG time when it is doing a fresh full scan on a disk with a lot of music. The main thing to remember is: each time you plug in the Touch or plug in the drive, check the server status panel and make sure the scan has completed before attempting to access music.
