Did you phone the official support line or email and ask for help?
There's no need to look through the forums if you don't wish. 

There are learning curves for almost all products. No one sits behind
the wheel of a car for the first time at age 15 or 16 and is a good
driver. It takes some instruction and practice. However, once you learn
to drive, most people forget the early difficulties when they didn't
know what they were doing. Same thing with iPhones, VCRs and so on. 

There is likely a simple answer to your problem, that once learned,
will make your Touch as simple to use and as reliable as I've found
mine.
