Rating system only !!! , will see when the stereophile issue is in a shop close to me in Sweden I assumed you gave it a good word as transport :) I can see a lower rating as stand alone player D sounds about right. I listening to it now as my processor had a bit of a failure and is away on repair , it's sounds surprisingly ok and "nice" but not as detailed and dynamic and exciting as i'm used to via my processor , not that good . But very good for the money . We are discussing ratings as it will be a bit disparate as "good enough" transport is achieved by quite a lot of products in modest price range. But top notch DAC is another thing completely . This would not be the only product with multiple functions that it can perform with quite different results in each area. Thats why I'm content with it as a transport myself it does not differ from my MeridianG98DH on redbook CD in any way, I think ?
