I'm new to the Touch, having mine for only a couple of months, but I am doing just what you describe. I am playing 24bit/96kHz FLAC downloaded from HD Tracks using the analog outputs of the Touch into my pre-amp AUX input. I think it sounds great. Some day I may consider switching to an external DAC, but for now I am satisfied with the sound of the DAC in the Touch. As to whether you will hear a difference going to 24/96 with the internal DAC, I don't know. That probably depends on the rest of you system (amp and speakers). But I figure I am investing in the high quality music now, and in the future, if I add an external DAC and get even more benefit from, so much the better. I really enjoy the music I have purchased from HD Tracks. For the most part, I wasn't familiar with the music before I bought it, but everything I've gotten is great.
