I have a ReadyNas duo which I bought hoping to be able to run squeeze center. It's not just the web interface that's slow - it's that handling of album art is painful (6hrs+ for a small 400 album collection). I use it now as an excellent file server and bought the little atom powered Revo box to act as the media server (which it does superbly - same rescan in 30 mins).
I recently set up a system at my girlfriends where I had a readyNas set up and added a small barebone atom server, with cheap 32G SSD and 2Gig of memory for under $200 from NewEgg - I intalled Vortexbox onto this and run it headless. The performance is astonishing and I can leave it unattended for weeks (connected to a UPS) and its simplified my maintenance of this system completely. The ReadyNas is underpowered as a lot of floating point calculations are needed for the artwork rescaling I believe - so you need a better chip if you want this to be handled well - maybe the new atom based RedyNas duo that is about to be launched will have the power - certainly looks that way, but I don't know the price. -- linvale Squeezcenter running on ACER R1600 Windows XP Fileserver ReadyNAS Duo Main Listening Transporter / Controller Kitchen : SB3 Bedroom : Boom Bath : SBRadio Study: Duo ------------------------------------------------------------------------ linvale's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=22828 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=83521 _______________________________________________ Touch mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
