Try as I might I could not find the exact specifications of the headphone output (other than the size of the jack) for either the Touch or the Denon receiver. So once again determining which output sounds better will come down to doing a direct comparison between the two outputs. My gut feeling wants me to say that Denon should have a beefier output and be better able to handle full size headphones but that may not be the case. The Touch's headphone jack can drive full size headphones, such as the Beyerdymanic DT880 and the Goldring DR150, two headphones I've tested with the Touch, however I'm not sure if the volume adjustment is done in the digital or analog stage (I suspect that the volume is controlled in the digital stage). While the maximum volume level is not super loud it is loud enough for most casual listening. I would suspect that on the Denon the headphone volume is in the analog stage. I have a Marantz HTR and the headphone output on it is superb, is capable of driving most full size headphones and can reach very high volume levels. Hopefully the Denon can do the same. The reason I'm concerned about whether or not the volume is controlled in the digital or analog stage is that if it is in the digital stage then using too low a volume (under 50% or so) will cause deterioration of the sound. In the analog stage this is not a problem. -- ralphpnj Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels -> Snatch -> The Transporter -> Transporter 2 (oops) -> Touch 'Last.fm' (http://www.last.fm/user/jazzfann/) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ralphpnj's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10827 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=84394 _______________________________________________ Touch mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
