Adding a new data point - I am concluding that the Touch does not work with the big Seagate 3TB drive for unknown reasons. After trying reformatting again as NTFS, verifying that there is only 1 primary partition and only storing music files on the 3TB Seagate Goflex I could not get the touch to access the files when plugged into the USB, but could get it to read the files wirelessly when plugged into my computer. I got a Hitachi 1TB USB copied a few files and plugged it into the Touch's usb and it plays fine. The Hitachi is formatted FAT32 while the Seagate was NTFS.
