Steve, thank you - I was aware of this restriction, which is the reason for my inquiry here. For some reason, though, my rDAC is playing 88.2 and 96 files through its optical input although it should not do so.
Okay, I finished my measurements using my PC soundcard. For testing purposes, I have connected the coax and the optical output of SBT to the respective inputs of my Soundblaster, which can now display the bitrates that SBT outputs. All is well. I read 88.2 respectively 96 when the appropriate hi res files are played through SBT. Which basically solves my problem: I am not losing anything here. Thanks Phil, thanks everybody for bearing with me. But still ... how on earth does the rDAC play those bitrates when it is not supposed to? And why does it NOT play those bitrates if I send them from a different device, my MacBook Pro (all with the correct settings in Audio Midi)? This one is for another day ....
