I use the DAC in my Cambridge Azur 840C CD player. The combination sounds terrific. Better than the using the DAC in the Touch itself, even though the DAC in the Touch is pretty good. Your choice of which DAC (Touch or external) will depend on how much you value getting the best possible sound quality. For instance, if all you listen to is internet radio or background music, then getting an external DAC may be overkill.
