I actually did a test on just what you are asking this week. I hooked up the analog outs from the touch to my pre and listened for a while. It sounded good. Next I used TosLink from touch to my Cambride Audio DACMagic and I can tell you without a doubt that using the DACMagic the music sounded better. It was sharper, more precise, the bass was handled better and it just sounded more "there". (great description huh :) )
