OK, as I was mentioning as part of 'this thread'
(http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87448), I've been
having a problem with Apple Lossless files. Usually it's only on the
first track of an album: About four seconds into play it stops for a
couple of seconds, then starts again. Some details:
- This problem does not occur every time, on a given file. I can
play the same file a dozen times and it will usually happen only the
first time, and even then it's only about 75% of the time when I try
it.
- Rarely, it will happen on the second track of an album, but usually
it's only on the first track.
- These files play fine on iTunes and on my Sonos box.
- I'm using the current version of SBS on my Netgear NASDuo.
- The problem is not a wireless issue; it happens even when I connect
my Touch and my Netgear with ethernet cables to the same router and
set the Touch for an ethernet connection.
- The problem happens only with Apple Lossless files, not WAVs or
MP3s.
- I can convert these files to FLACs but it will be a big job; maybe
900 of my albums are in ALAC.
- The options for FLAC or MP3 playback are grayed-out on my SBS
settings for Apple Lossless (I see no "native" setting); my only
choices are PCM > "faad" or "Disabled;" right now it's on faad.
Any suggestions for a simple fix? I'd love not to have to buy a new
computer or convert ten thousand files if I can, but we'll see ...
Thanks.
