Hi Guys,
After an exchange of e-mails with Touch Support at Logitech today I
received an e-mail from them containing this sentence: -

"Unfortunately, we must inform you that your product is defective and a
warranty exchange is needed."

Thanks to all who spent time and grey matter trying to sort things out
for me.
