Are you still running static IP addresses on the vbox and the Touch? The problem might be the DHCP server on the router not responding fast enough in which case the static IP addresses could very well fix the problem.
Probably about 85% of the network issues I have to deal with (my own, relatives, groups I administer etc) have to do with DHCP issues. Hmm, I ought to market a separate DHCP server box, just plug it in and turn off the one in the router!
