Your NAS is a pc switched on all day (just a low power one without
monitor/keyboard). You might consider a more powerful NAS, any old
used computer with vortexbox installed (can run headless, and you can
stick it anywhere in a back room as long as connected to network), a
tiny PC that uses very little power, etc. I use a vortexbox appliance
(actually I have two), and these function as NAS units essentially, but
are full power computers that can run LMS and all the plugins with no
issues. Stays on 24/7, stuck in a back closet, and is very stable with
low power usage.

Be a bit careful with the dlna/upnp approach. unless customized for the
player, the general dlna approach doesn't do gapless playback, doesn't
allow syncing of multiple players, may not do 24/96, etc.

Anyhow just a few thoughts on what to look for. good luck.
