I guess something _is_ strange, then!  The on board SBS is not running.
Also, I have always had he option to choose Ethernet, so that wasn't an
issue.  And I did already to enter the ip address of the LMS computer. 
As you said, it does not switch to it, just adds it as another option. 
Somehow or another it does see my LMS, the evidence ;) being it
displays my music and it is confirmed here:
Settings>Advanced>Diagnostics>Server Info 192.168.1.156.
