NEVERMIND!

Turns out the Wavelink was NOT properly detected.  It showed up in
/proc/asound/cards as card3 and I was able to select the device in EDO,
but it was not showing up in "aplay -l" and device status in EDO/stream0
showed "stopped".  Did some digging in this thread and found Triode's
instructions to try test kernel #7 so I installed that and it works! 
The Wavelink shows up in aplay -l (now card1 as only spdif and USB are
enabled with test kernel 7), stream0 now shows "running", and the
correct sampling rate of whatever's playing lights up on the Wavelink.
