Small quibble, I have used ethernet over powerline (Devolo dLAN AV 200)
and have found it troublesome - I think it depends a lot on the quality
and topography of your electric wiring and the distance between
"plugs".

I have a house built in 1906 with early 1980's PVC insulated wiring
(albeit with modern sockets and switches). My router is an approximate
cable run of 15 yards to either of my Squeezeboxes. I have three main
"circuits" for the power sockets in my house one for each floor, ground,
first and loft (or for those in the USA, first second and loft!). The
router is in the loft and both Squeezeboxes are on the ground floor so
the signals pass through the 5 year old consumer unit with its thermal
cut-out and RCD switches.

Actual network throughput was far from consistent, fluctuating between a
"real world" transfer speed of between 0.25 and 2 MB/s wth occasional
total drop-outs. What is more the plugs would stop working at random
intervals - anywhere between a couple of days and a couple of months -
requiring a re-boot (switch on and switch off at both ends of the link).
They were also big, ugly and ran hot.

In the end I found my WiFi to be considerably more reliable and discrete
than the ethernet over powerline. I gave the plugs to a friend who uses
them successfully to connect his router to his PC in a small two bed
apartment with all-new wiring and no cable run longer than 7 yards. The
PC and router are also on the same "circuit" (there is only one). He
does, however, still have the problem with the plugs sometimes failing
to work and needing the old swtich off and switch on routine.

So YMMV, but "caveat emptor".
