I was disappointed by the powerline approach as well. i have tried a
Netgear nano combi.
Basically, it only worked reliable when there was a "one-on-one" wiring
between the source and destination wall sockets.

When it needs to go across any splitting/connection points, connectivity
goes downward.
WIFI performs better in terms of 'distance' in my house.

I was looking for a way to have LAN/Internet access in my backyard, I
guess rolling out a UTP wire is all that is left :-(
