I think most users, myself included, will not detect a difference in sound across any of the three options put forth. Those who do report detecting a difference are divided between (a) those with a strong susceptibility to the placebo effect, and (b) those with extremely high-end systems and/or "golden ears" that hear things that most mortals cannot.
Use whichever method is most convenient for you. Chances are it will not be a HDD direct into the USB port.
