You are of course free to do (and should do) what works best for you. I'm not an engineer, so can't really speak to the Touch hardware. But based on what I've read by engineers that do understand the touch hardware, some of these things (decodiing on the server, disable wifi, screen, etc.) don't necessarily make things better and could even make things worse. There is a cult that is convinced that they can hear differences in WAV and FLAC files too. In controlled conditions, there is no evidence for such differences, but to each his own. And again, as the end user, you should do what you want that works best for you. You don't need to convince anyone else.
