SOLVED: I was following up on Mnyb's suggestions about opening ports and trying to find out if the Buffalo Linkstation had any configuration options for a firewall or opening ports and found a reference to later firmware having options to enable uPnP. I updated the firmware to v2.1, reinstalled ssods and bingo! the Touch found LMS.
