Don't know about the ATH. For background listening out of my iPad I use the easily driven and inexpensive ($80) Noontec Zoro. Pretty good for the money. If you like the 701 sound and can afford to get a good headphone amp first, I think you would be happier with this combination for critical listening. Best luck!
