It seems to work better when I use the real Microsoft micro-HDMI to HDMI
adapter cable. The casing on the Surface is sloped and a normal
micro-HDMI cable is cut straight, so it doesn't fit in all the way.
Doing a bit of triming with a hobby knife made the cheap cable work
better, but the real Microsoft cable seems to work even better. Almost
all of the noise is now gone (but I suspect they still need to do a lot
more buffering when handling anything greater than 44.1/16/2.
