Got it working with the new firmware of today dec, 2nd.

You DO need an powered USB2-hub, and will only be able to connect at
44/48khz. Playback rates higher than that simply won't play, at least my
96/192 FLAC-stuff. So the server-option in the file-playback-option must
be set to FLAC - native (for downsampling) so that files will play.

I do not really see the technical advantage over SPdif connection,  that
is, of course, unless if you can hear jitter. 
You will add severe instability, in turning on/off your setup, live with
pops and clicks during that, plus having added another self-powered
device ....

I'm back to SPDIF!
