I have been contacted by DSpeaker by e-mail and they say the latest firmware update currently on the site has solved all the problems with the USB connection to the Touch. Reading the above saga there has obviously been a few problems but they seem very confident that this is now resolved.
Not really had the chance to try the USB connections yet due to personal commitments but will do so hopefully this weekend. One thing I would mention and suggest (I have no idea why this happens but it does seem to be the case) . Any time you do a Firmware update it is well worth doing the set up again and run the room test with your microphone connected again. It seems to focus in on the measurements it takes in more detail and the resultant dsp filter seems toimprove the sound quality . This may be linked to the observation that some of the updates improve SQ so they make the sound reaching the mic that bit better and make it easier for it to register the differences from the generated tone and the recorded one.
