I occasionally download songs from amazon. not a problem. And I can play them in itunes if I wish. And itunes store no longer sells songs with DRM (the file protection that can limit your use of the songs). I think you're being a bit too paranoid about installing itunes. Don't believe everything you read on the web about how itunes can *destroy* your music files and take over your music. It can if you set it to do so I suppose, but you're not going to. And besides, you do have complete backups of all your music right?
