Hate to dust off such an old thread, but thought this might be relevant/related... I've noticed when my Touch goes from a 44.1kHz mp3 to a 48kHz one, we get about 1-2 seconds of wickedly loud white noise/screech between tracks. Sometimes we get a shorter, quieter similar screech when going back from 48kHz to 44.1kHz. It's really, really unnerving. Touch is connected to a Yamaha RX-V673, and other than the screech during the transition, both sample rates play fine.
