So far, I've been using my Touch in one room of my apartment, connected to a pair of small powered speakers (and Ethernet-cabled to a small fanless PC running LMS; a cheap wireless router is cabled between them, acting as a sort of "bridge" by supplying the necessary DNS addressing), to play music that I've ripped to a hard drive and, occasionally, to listen to Internet streams. I intend to move this gear to the living room and connect it to my main hi-fi system once I have ripped the bulk of my 2000 CDs to my library drive.
It occurs to me that, once I've moved things to the living room, it would be neat to be able to also access my library tracks and Internet streams in our bedroom. So, my questions (pardon me for not having searched through past forum posts to see if these have been already discussed): -- If I had a second Touch, wouldn't it be possible to connect it via WiFi to my music system's wireless router (right now, since I've been using it only via Ethernet cables I have its WiFi function turned off, but that would be easy to switch back on), and have it play tracks from my library drive?; -- If I did that, and if both Touches were turned on at the same time, would they only be able to play the same track (that's my guess), or would it be possible to have them each access the library separately and play different tracks simultaneously (for that to be possible, wouldn't the second Touch have to run a second copy of LMS that has scanned the library drive: either its internal "TinyLMS" or an instance of LMS on another micro-PC)?; -- Even if playing separate simultaneous tracks is not possible, shouldn't two Touches on the same WiFi network be able to play separate Internet streams at the same time (via mysb.com)--or could one Touch play Internet streams while the other is playing hard-drive tracks?; -- Just for my understanding: must two Touches on the same network be set up in a master and slave relationship, or can they operate as completely independent devices? Are there any benefits and drawbacks to each of those configurations? Being able to have one Touch act as an Internet radio in one room while the other is playing library tracks would give me sufficient reason to find a second Touch; being able to have each of them access separate library tracks at the same time (making a "multi-zone" music system, as it were) would be sort of a "killer app" for me, if the second Touch and necessary ancillary gear is not too costly. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ jeromeharris's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=56799 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98061 _______________________________________________ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
