Your files must have the corresponding replay gain tags . It functions by actually adjusting the volume on the squeezebox to a target volume so everything sours equally loud. By the nature of most modern recordings , the volume gets lower on average.
Potentially the sn ratio gets a bit lower just like reducing the volume. But it's unlikely that you can hear that. Also it is usually the crappiest recordings that gets most adjustment downwards and they sound bad anyway.
