A "reserved" address on a DHCP router is still using the DHCP process of the router to assign an IP address (it just always uses the same IP address). A true static IP address is not dependent on the router's DHCP to even be working to get an IP address. I prefer true static IP addresses for my items that never leave the house. But use reserved IP in DHCP for things like laptops, iphones, etc. For a Touch, the way I do a true static is to turn off DHCP temporarily in my router. Then connect the TOUCH, go though a reset to connect to network, and when it can't get an IP address it offers up a menu to add manually. My router is 192.168.1.1 and DHCP addresses are .100 thru .254, so for static I use, for example: IP: 192.168.1.25 Subnet 255.255.255.0 Gateway: 192.168.1.1 DNS1: 192.168.1.1 DNS2: 8.8.8.8 8.8.8.8 is the Google public DNS address. Shouldn't really matter which approach you use. *Location 1:* VortexBox (2.2) > LMS 7.7.2 > Transporter, Touch, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet except Radio) *Location 2:* VBA 3TB (2.2) > LMS 7.7.2 > Touch > Benchmark DAC I, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet except Radio) *Office:* Win7(64) > LMS 7.8 > SqueezePlay *Spares:* VBA 4TB, SB3, Touch (3), Radio (3), CONTROLLER *Controllers:* iPhone4S (iPeng), iPad2 (iPengHD & SqueezePad), CONTROLLER, or SqueezePlay 7.8 on Win7(64) laptop Ripping (FLAC) - dbpoweramp, Tagging - mp3tag, Spotify ------------------------------------------------------------------------ garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=100043 _______________________________________________ Touch mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
