The dumbed down bit about downloading material should make it a hit. Several million iTunes store users have proved this point. As for format, none of us here have any idea about which format to download material in, have we? ;)
The rest of it is going to depend on the interfacing capability - I'd want to run it into an external DAC, and if there's no SPDIF it's a deal breaker AFAIC. I'd also want to access the player from my computer via a web browser, my smartphone via an app, and by the use of a physical remote, and as a last resort by touching the screen.
