The Touch will only play files with higher sample rate if they're FLAC. Do you have a DAC with coax SPDIF input that can support 24/192? If so try that, and see if the problem goes away. Another thing to consider is that some DACs/interfaces have trouble with 24/176.4 files - they just can't handle them full stop.
Just try the SPDIF thing and see if it works first - you may have network issues contributing to the problem too.
