I don't think that is the issue here. On my PC, when I plug in the
Dragonfly Dac, the volume is set to about 30% or so of Max. You have to
use Windows to set the Level of the Device up to 100. It's in the Manual
for the Dragonfly. However when you plug it in the Squeezebox, you are
unable to set the volume, so I am guessing that it is still the default
when it gets plugged into the Squeezbox.
