I was equally skeptical, for my it was just "zeros" and "ones" going to
the DAC, and the Dac should do the conversion... Anyway, I decided to
just give it a try. Now it is absolutely obvious the difference (if
doing A/B comparisons at least). May depend of course on how revealing
the rest of the system is. I just got the Sennheiser´s HD800 (with the
Dac V1) and these very-revealing headphones really discriminate any
difference "upstream" (even though I can also clearly hear the
difference via my Proac´s).

PS - many people also say that it is not a good idea to have both
outputs connected at the same time, as it will only increase noise..
(but did not test this though)
