It's a feature . The LMS server can transcode file formats and bitrates
that a player normally does not support .
Squeezeboxes have been made for a decade with different models with
different capabilities .
That way you have been able to play formats that did not even existed
when the player was designed .
This beats silence all the way .

And you get some info you can se in some info about the file format that
it is transcoded ( don't remeber the exact place not important ).

EDO is a third party app ( it's not designed by Logitech , this project
is partly an open source project ) .

EDO gives you USB audio ,24/192 audio and DSD over DoP (DSD64 over DoP
?).
It does have some side effects ,the analog out does not work anymore nor
the headphone out and 24/192 over wifi is not not really viable in most
cases .The USB out support it provides works in many cases but not all
,due to some limitations hardware/software .USB was originally there for
USB drives .

Personally I would only install EDO if needed to support an USB DAC .

Logitech decided that the best balance was 24/96 and this work on all
outputs simultaneously , and USB DAC's was not such big thing back then
.

Here some thoughts .

LMS server has a high quality resampler the 24/192 > 24/96
transformation is completely inaudible . You can enjoy your 24/192 files
anyway , and you said they sounded great ;) that's because .....

24/192 is overkill , 24/96 is more than enough for human listeners,
that's why Logitech thought that 24/96 was all they needed the Touch is
not expensive ,but it's very good , so "compromises" where done where it
did not hurt anyone ( small lightweight and plastic too ).
If music is aviable in 24/192 or 24/96 buy the 24/96 version , and save
some $$
That said HD-tracks is not always the must trustworthy business partner
.
