I suggest that as an alternative to trying to use a hard drive attached to the SBT, that a few alternatives be explored: Raspberry Pi with attached hard drive and running LMS (several ways of doing this, including piCorePlayer), and more recently I used the instructions 'here' (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?105512-Portable-squeezebox-with-a-Western-Digital-quot-Passport-Wireless-quot) to set up LMS on a 2Tb WesternDigital WiFi hard drive unit (the instructions are quite easy to follow if you know a little Linux command line).
