I like the squeezer app for controlling LMS (android). Assuming all things are equal (the file *is* the same, the player settings are the same, you have identical volume levels all the way through the chain and no recompression happening) then there's no logical reason why it would sound different at all. The SBT even buffers more than 30s ahead even when playing from WiFi so WiFi isn't even active while you listen from the memory buffer. If it sounds repeatedly different then some setting is different. And remember to rule out your biased brain when listening.. humans are actually rubbish at being objective.
