Absolutely. This information would be gold in some Stars! games I've
played. Remember that I'm going to take the total, subtract the fleets
I know off (ie all of mine, and all the enemies I can see). In extreme
cases it will tell me that I know every ship. Even if it doesn't tell
me exactly it gives me a good idea how many I can't see. Even if it
gives me a clue it can be too much information. And forcing people to
split and merge fleets to hide the info is silly.
The delta between turns can be extremely useful as well - as a freshly
built ship is always a new fleet.
Also at the beginning game it tells me the number of planets in the
game.

How about making that a strong suggestion then? It's a fairly good
metric for game size.

Also don't forget the length of each turn. After all I don't want to
join an AI test game generating every 10 seconds.

Generally speaking I won't be interested in joining a game on turn 54.
Joining a game to get wumped by a massive 339 planet empire on my 3rd
turn isn't fun.
