Like many trac users, I have set up a custom field to manage QA
verification (cf. threads such as Allow a ticket to be 'Resolved'
without closing the ticket?). Here's a part of the workaround that I
have not yet figured out: when I reopen
a ticket, is it possible to automatically change the value of the
custom status? In other words, I would like the custom field would be
updated to UNRESOLVED upon reopening the ticket.

I was looking at possibilities within the [ticket-actions] or
[ticket-status] sections of the .ini file, but it looks like you can
only affect the hard-coded status in this sections..

I would be grateful for advice, or anecdotes on how others handle this
kind of workflow.
