I think you should try a raw SMTP session: telnet <server> 25 EHLO <domain.com> MAIL FROM: <sender> RCPT TO: <recipient> DATA Subject: This is a test Test . QUIT and see how it works (and if it blocks), with your local server, domain.com, sender and recipient, and without the < and > chars.
