No, that wasn't clear. It sounds like what I want is the first and not  
the second. I'll have another look at the plugin; maybe it's more  
suited to my needs than I thought.

I respectfully disagree here; this situation is not a purely  
mechanical thing, though the communication that needs to happen does  
contain some mechanical steps.
