Came across a post somewhere in last few days suggesting that this
error can also arise due to the infamous expat version mismatch
problem. You would though mean you would have had to be using Python
2.4 or older as expat issues shouldn't exist in Python 2.5 as Python
correctly namespace prefixes expat code in those latter versions.

The expat problem is described in:

Normally one just gets a crash, but feasible that it might cause some
sort of run time exception instead depending on how incompatible the
expat versions are.
