In my installation of 0.11 (installed using "python ./setup.py install", all the trac code is uncompressed in /usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/Trac-0.11.6-py2.5.egg (the .egg being a directory, not a file). If easy_install does the same thing, and 0.12 is similarly set up, you should just be able to find that file and replace it...
