It's certainly possible... especially if you can be a bit more precise
about the performance issues you're seeing and what you expect.
A good starting point can be found in the wiki,

Please read it, check the various points mentioned there, try out the
suggestions, and don't hesitate to come back here once you have more
precise information about what worked or not.
