Your best bet would probably be to just use the current trunk. Its very near being released anyway.

I appreciate all of the comments and I would still like to give the MySQL support a try, if it seems feasible. So can anyone direct me to which code to download? I mean which release and which patch or patches? The 986 ticket page:
