Can one just enter in a user's id, and the system will look up the email address?
The result acually depends on which Trac version you are using. I hereafter assume you're using 0.9.x: If the "cc:" field contains a email address, this address email is used as a recipient address for the notification email. If the "cc:" field contains a login/username, Trac looks for an email address for this username - which is the address the user has set in the "Settings" page. If no address has been defined, no email is sent to this user. On 0.10 (i.e. the current trunk) there are more notification options, which allow for example to resolve the email address from the username on the local SMTP server.
I believe it's redundant to have to keep entering one's email address as the reporter or other fields - since the system already knows your address.
