If you are goint to make your own cable, Scott has a mini-B USB to pigtail 
cable available:

You can find USB mini-B to USB A cables at stores that carry cameras or any USB 
On-The-Go accessories.  The only gotcha with this is not all the cable 
manufacturers wire each of the pins in the mini-B since the USB-A side only has 
four connections: D+, D-, VBUS, VGND. The ID pin on the mini-B side is 
"Reserved for Future Use" by the USB spec, but is used by Garmin to identify 
which of their accessories are plugged into the device USB port.
