The Motorola 8505518V01 Wideband VHF 136-174 MHz antenna is THE antenna for VHF handhelds with male SMA connectors (actually Motorola's connector differs from an SMA connector in that the center contact and dielectric in the female connector are not recessed, as they are in a female SMA connector). At least one other name brand commercial radio manufacturer sells their radios with the Motorola antenna as an option, so you know its a good antenna if they are willing to put radios in their customers' hands with their quasi-competitor's name molded on the antenna. Ironically, Forest Service users were complaining about poor RF performance of OEM antennas on their VHF radios, but after they replaced them with 8505518V01 antennas, they complained instead about short battery life because the well-matched load allowed the PA to drive the finals at full power, draining the battery much more rapidly during TX. If it's not one thing, it's another.
