ok, I will hang on to the cable, I will check with radio shack and see if 
they can supply one, if not,  I will order a  null modem adapter from you.

    I wasn't thinking when you said you used a gender changer.. it needs to
  be a null modem adapter, to switch pins 2 and 3. I stock the
  low-profile male-male adapters that fit on the DR-135.
