If the GPS receiver is otherwise working, and if the problem is the Nuvi's antenna itself and not some circuitry between the external antenna connector and the receiver, connecting an external antenna should do the job. It's easy try. Just connect the antenna and see if the GPS gets a lock. Watching the satellite view should show you where the birds are in the sky and the signal strength from any of the ones that you are receiving from. When you say "puck antenna" I'm assuming that you actually mean an external antenna and not a "puck GPS receiver". I have an external antenna that works with my Nuvis and several other compatible Garmin GPS receivers. If the usual antenna can see the sky, the signal strength is about the same. However, if it's in a location where the sky is limited, using the external antenna will sometimes make all the difference. In your case, try it and see if it works. The antenna is just an antenna (and sometimes a pre-amp) and all the smarts are in the receiver itself. 73 es cul - Keith VE7GDH -- "I may be lost, but I know exactly where I am!"
